Synopsis
Game of Thrones star Jack Gleeson returns for the Famous Five remake. Irish actor is back after nine-year retirement, joining BBC adaptation of Enid Blyton's books alongside a talented cast.
Jack Gleeson, who is known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, comes out of retirement to join BBC's The Famous Five series, based on Enid Blyton's beloved books. The 31-year-old Irish actor will portray Wentworth in the adaptation directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
Gleeson had stepped away from acting nine years ago after portraying the villainous king in Game of Thrones. However, his passion for the craft reignited, leading him to participate in independent theatre and the BBC miniseries, Out of Her Mind.
The much-anticipated adaptation will follow five explorers through treacherous and action-packed adventures, unveiling mysteries and secrets. The series draws inspiration from Blyton's collection of 21 children's books, centered around siblings Julian, Dick, Anne, their cousin George, and her loyal dog, Timmy. The tales revolve around their efforts to foil kidnappers, thieves and smugglers along the Cornish coast.
The BBC recently announced the cast, with Diaana Babnicova portraying George, Elliott Rose as Julian, Kit Rakusen as Dick and Flora Jacoby Richardson as Anne. Other cast members include James Lance as Quentin, Ann Akinjirin as Fanny and Diana Quick as Mrs. Wentworth.
Director Tim Kirkby, also an executive producer, praised the young cast's immense talent and the freshness they bring to these iconic characters. Alongside the actors, Kip, the bearded collie cross, will portray Timmy the dog.
